This issue of How to Book a Gig is a tad bit late and I apologize for that, but to make up for it I have done some extra work for this issue. Lisa’s Oak St Lounge is a venue that’s been around for over seven years, and is owned by a lovely lady by the name of Lisa. I had the opportunity to meet with Lisa and to talk with her about booking, her goals and what drove her to open a Louisville music venue. I also had a chance to talk with some artists who have played at Lisa’s to get you all a more complete perspective of Lisa’s. Well here is the info on booking at Lisa’s Oak St Lounge.

Booking at Lisa’s Oak ST lunge is relatively simple for weekdays. Simply call Lisa at 502-637-9315. You may drop off samples of your music in the venues mailbox out front. Lisa does not really keep up with MySpace or anything internet related so you must get her over the phone or go visit. Recommendations from other bands or promoters who have played there before can also help get you in. Lisa has made it clear that she is open to any genres. The performer is in control of nearly every aspect of the show. They will set the door price, start time, sound, and will be responsible for all promotion. The only cost to the band imposed by Lisa is a $20 fee that goes to her door person. This is not disputable and you must use her door person. I believe this is because of the 21 and over restrictions. This venue has been recommended by other bands as a good place for newer bands wanting to get their feet wet and check their following.
Lisa’s Oak St Lounge is a moderately sized venue which technically seats about 150 people. However the stage is in a room that only seats 15-20 people comfortably. You will notice in the pictures that the bar area is about 2-3 times the size of the stage area. There is also an area with pool tables and an arcade games. Out front there are tables and chairs. I don’t think that most people will be able to hear the music from out front as the stage is near the back of the venue across the bar. One thing I will mention is the bathrooms here were spotless and smelled fresh so ladies you don’t have to worry about gross unhealthy bathrooms when you go see your next show at Lisa’s
Lisa’s is equipped with only the barest of necessities when it comes to sound equipment. There is a 16 channel Mackie board with two JBL speakers. There are no monitors and the performers are responsible for their sound settings. You will need to bring your own mics, mic stands and PA equipment as recommended by musicians who have played there regularly in the past. The stage area is one of the smallest rooms in the venue. The stage is elevated about 1 foot from the floor and is wide enough for a 4 or 5 piece band. According to some artists who have performed there in the past the stage area gets full at 15 people and crowded with more than 30, however there is plenty of room at the bar and pool table room for people to spread out. Lisa’s Oak St lounge is open Tuesday thru Sunday at 7pm.

Since Lisa’s Oak St Lounge has a bar it is a 21 and over venue. This means that absolutely under no circumstances can anyone under the age of 21 enter the venue. So if someone in your band is under 21 they will not be allowed inside the venue.
If you decided to play here you must have a promo plain. Lisa, along with other bands who have played there, has made it clear that this is a venue and not a bar with regulars. You need to bring your own crowd or there will be only you and Lisa. If you bring Lisa your posters she will hang them inside the venue before your show but Lisa’s does no additional promotion.
The bar is well stocked and cash only. There is a working ATM inside the bar for those who need it. There is parking on the street and behind the venue.
