I'm Paul Robey, a general guy in the scene doing music, booking shows and writing music press which qualifies me to review this album. Now my goal is to write a review that's objective, critical and as unbiased as possible. I know and or have worked with each of the Skyscraper members in the scene and have come to know them as generally good guys and very professional.
Homebois in Outer Space I believe is a very important album for the Louisville Music scene for several different reasons which Ill get into. The album is packed full of gems. Only skipped through a few tracks on each listen. The album has several infectious tunes that will have humming along long after the song is over.
The album is packed full of fun easy going songs that are sure to make most heads bob. The party theme is prevalent throughout the album with songs like P*ssy Mary J and Let Her Dance you can't help but be thrown back to memories of good times past. Lyrically each of the Skyscraper guys deliver solid rhymes, anecdotes, and similes with style and swagger that balance each other out very well. While many of the songs seem to be motivated by an adolescent sexual energy that can be quite blunt at times, Skyscraper is able to deliver it with a finesse that will gain even the most prude of listeners' pardon. Skyscrapers tenure as musicians definitely shows in most of there songs.
I believe that the content of these songs will fit nicely into today's main stream music conglomerate, however their beats are quite unique in comparison to current industry beats. This I think will work well for them. There production team deserves a round of applause for the hard work that's gone into this album. It's apparent all the way through the album. With smooth melodies, guitar and key runs, soothing synths over gut punching beats you can both enjoy this album over a long drive or while getting dirty in the club. While some songs have a very present electronic influence there is always an element of live instrumentation that makes their songs sweet on the ears.
I believe that Hombois in Outer Space needs to be heard out side of the city walls. On behalf of The Local Sounds, Best of the Bottom and Common Collective I give you our full support and nomination as official representatives of Louisville's Music scene. This album needs all the Louisville scenes support in getting out and into the ears of people all over the Mid West.
Go out and buy a copy or two of this album and them burn a copy or two for a friend. People need to know about this album. It's all over itunes and the Little Heart Records store.
